The research aims to give a better understanding of the metrical and aesthetic characteristics, the unity and variability of early Hungarian poetry by conducting a large scale stylometrical analysis of old Hungarian poetical texts. The project proposes the analysis of the following two subcorpora: first, a deep formal analysis of Hungarian epic songs, investigating specific formal and generic patterns, and including authorship attribution questions; secondly, the examination of the lyrical poetry of that time, especially Bálint Balassi’s and his imitators’ petrarchan poetry, with the goal of a better understanding of the evolution process of Hungarian poetry of the 16th century.
